Mediation & Intercultural Mediation
What does it mean ?
Mediation is a procedure that helps those involved in a conflict to find an amicable
solution even in gridlock-situations.
A mediator (lat.:"procurer") maintains both conflict parties in order to
find a solution by regarding systemically their interests and their often
hidden or unconscious desires. In many cases this approach successfully
leads them to find an own way with an advantageous end in terms of
a "win-win-situation".
The responsibility for the contents remains with the conflict parties while the mediator is responsible for the procedure.

Intercultural Mediation
focuses on the impact of diverse cultural factors.
In principle the method remains the same. Nevertheless,
here we have the assumption that instead of sharing the same values,
the participants bring their very specific cultural background into the
situation whereby cultural dimensions become factors which needs to be
considered. With participants sharing the "same" cultural background at least similar cultural values are presumed and a significant impact on the
mediation process is not expected.
Within an intercultural mediation process particular rules and when
appropriate definite preliminaries should be discussed in order to
achieve its acceptance by all parties. For the purpose of procreating a
mutual understanding, behavior pattern should be explained during the process if they are due to culture specific values.
Intercultural mediation targets to uncover cultural due phenomena of the
conflict in order to integrate them into a constructive way of conflict
solving.
Please note ...
mediation is not a psychotherapeutical method and can not substitute an indicated treatment. Moreover mediation cannot avoid proceedings
which are subject to penal prosecution.
